The Dorkie is created by crossing the purebred Dachshund with the purebred Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie). It is considered a hybrid dog, meaning it is not purebred, however the lineage is known. Where as the term mutt is used when a dog has an unknown lineage.

Some claim hybrid dogs are healthier, because you are mixing up the gene pool. Many breeders of hybrids believe in what is called the heterosis effect and hybrid vigor. Vigor means, "Physical or mental strength, force or energy."

Cockapoos have become popular because they generally combine the outgoing, loving personality of the cocker spaniel with the low-shedding, low-dander qualities of the poodle.^[4] The poodle parent also contributes intelligence and a tendency to be very active, resulting in a loving, intelligent, energetic and agile dog that sheds very little.

Strictly speaking, the cockapoo cannot be described as a purebred because it does not 'breed true'. In breeders' terms, 'breeding true' means that the pups will have more consistently predictable characteristics, and will resemble both their parents, rather than exhibiting the varying characteristics of the dog breeds in their ancestries.

Cockapoos, however, may inherit the characteristics of either or both their parent breeds. While some cockapoos appear more similar to cocker spaniels, others will exhibit more poodle traits, creating a variation in cockapoo appearance and temperament. Cockapoo size and weight are a function of what type of dogs the parents were. Breeders usually use a toy or miniature poodle as the poodle parent. The following table describes the weights^[5][6][7], and heights^[8][6][9] of toy poodles, miniature poodles cocker spaniels and cockapoos, using AKC standards and other information.

Most Papichons have a very soft, wavy coat , which is non-shedding, and quite well

tolerated by most people with allergies.

Personality

On a range of 1-10, 10 being the most active (like a Jack Russel Terrier!), Papichons will generally fall in the range of 4-7. Like other Bichon Frise crosses, they are social, friendly, and good with children. They are fairly sturdy dogs, capable of going for 2-3 mile walks with ease.

Size and Colors

Papi-chons vary in size, depending on the size of the parents. Most of our Papichons mature 8 to 12 pounds, but size varies. Papi-chons come in a variety of colors, mostly dependant on the color genetics of the Papillon parent, as all Bichons are white or cream and white. We like to produce multicolors, like black and white, black with cream markings, etc. White or apricot are also common colors.
Papi-Chons can be groomed many different ways. Most people prefer the bichon style groom, fluffy all over, including the face. Poodle type trims can be chosen as well. Like all non-shedding dogs, Papichons require professional grooming for trims, generally every 9 to 16 weeks, depending on how long you like the hair left. Shorter trims require less frequent grooming.

The Cockapoo derives from the Poodle its extraordinary intelligence and non shedding coat. Likewise, there is very little dander, which is the main culprit in allergies to dogs. This makes the Cockapoo the ideal choice for those who have problems with allergies.

Their coat is non-shedding so this makes a Yorkiepoo a good choice for allergy sufferers. The coat should be soft and silky. The coat can be wavy, curly, or straight and comes in all different colors. The eyes are dark with a lively expression. They can be almond shaped or round. The nose is black. The ears may stand up like a yorkies or may drop like a poodles. The feet are small and oval shaped. The impression one should get from a yorkiepoo is that of a well-proportioned dog.

The yorkiepoos personality can be a mix of both parent dogs. It is friendly, self confident, loyal, energetic, brave, intelligent, playful, sweet, and loving. The yorkiepoo loves their family very much and would have their feelings hurt if left out. They may be small but can run very fast. Although this beautiful mix is easily trained they can be quite stubborn. The yorkiepoo truly thinks that it is a big dog. Even though they are small in stature the yorkiepoo makes an excellent watch dog.

The yorkiepoo does well in an apartment or a house.

Their coats should be brushed often to prevent matts. Regular bathing, ear cleaning and possible plucking, along with nail trimming is required.

Size: Since the Shorkie is a mixed breed, the size can vary depending upon the breeds it is mixed with. The adult Shorkie will weigh between 7-16 pounds and will reach a height between 6-11 inches.

Coat: The coat of a shorkie is usually long and silky.

Character: Shorkies are loving dogs. They are affectionate and become attached to their owners.
